Bathinda, April 10

The delay in harvesting of wheat crop due to unseasonal rain is set to dampen festive spirit of Baisakhi.

Though the Punjab Mandi Board decided to commence purchase from April 1, only limited produce has reached grain markets as the flattened crop would take time to mature.

Agriculture expert said the harvest of wheat crop had been delayed due to the prolonged cold weather in the region.

Shingara Singh Mann of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) said, “We were expecting a bumper yield, but the hailstorm and untimely rain damaged the crop. The delay in harvesting has dampened Baisakhi celebrations.”
