Six girls, who are on a waiting list of the Punjab Police Recruitment-2016, climbed atop a water tank opposite Ranbir Club around 1 pm today.

Demanding appointment letters, several other candidates on the waiting list blocked the Ranbir Club road and raised slogans against the Punjab Government.

Later, the candidates, including Hardeep Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Harpreet Kaur, Veena Rani, Kiran Rani and Kiran Kaur climbed down from the water tank around 8:30 pm after much persuasion.

The authorities fixed a meeting of the miffed candidates with the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister tomorrow at Chandigarh.

Amandeep Singh of the Waiting List Candidates’ Union said, “On August 30, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured us that the DGP will soon meet us.”

He said the meeting had not been fixed for the past three-and-a-half months and around 400 candidates were still waiting for their joining in the Police Department.
