Abohar, March 1
In view of fast drying of trees on Kikkarkhera-Kandhwala-Amarkot stretch of the Abohar-Sriganganagar road, the Forest Department will plant 45,000 saplings alongside the stretch of road in July during monsoon season.
The road was constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana here about 12 years ago. Adverse climate and accumulation of rainwater on the road last year are considered to be the main reasons for drying up of trees.
Forest Range officer Balwinder Singh, who belongs to Jhurarkhera village near here, said a report had been submitted to the state headquarter, seeking allowance to uproot the trees which had dried-up. In their report they have cited that such trees can fall anytime during the forthcoming rainy season and cause loss to human life.
The department plans to plant kikkar, neem, arjun, shisham, peepal and khejri saplings in July. — OC
