Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday awarded a number of police officials whose exemplary work in tackling drug menace was highlighted in a report titled “Ghoongat-clad women shed coyness, help police nail peddlers” in The Tribune.
The DGP stated on X: “Meet the trailblazers in #Punjab’s war on drugs! Our @PunjabPoliceInd officers, from all ranks, are revolutionising the fight with innovative methods and proactive strategies. The Director General’s Commendation Disc honours their unwavering dedication to community safety. Kudos to SSP Deepak Pareek; SP Rupinder Kaur (Kapurthala), SHO Harinder Singh (Ferozepur), Inspector Veera Rani (Fazilka), Inspector Usha Rani (Hoshiarpur) and Sub-Inspector Davinder Kumar (Gurdaspur).
These cops had adopted innovative methods to spread awareness against drugs, besides sourcing information about the network of the addicts, peddlers and smugglers. Inspector Veera Rani is helping Ghoongat-clad women in finding their voices against drug menace. SHO Harinder Singh uses loudspeakers to educate youths and get information related to addicts. IPS Deepak Pareek uses watchmen as a credible tool against drugs. In Hoshiarpur, Inspector Usha Rani identifies addicts and arranges for their de-addiction. Sub-Inspector Davinder Kumar organises anti-drug seminars and meetings in Gurdaspur. Kapurthala SP Rupinder Kaur organises nukkad nataks (street plays) to spread awareness.
