Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday ordered police officers in border districts to step up efforts to track down and arrest dreaded criminals settled abroad by procuring colour-coded international notices as part of counter-terrorism measures and a campaign against organised crime.
The order was issued at a meeting with senior police officers of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Batala, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran.
The directions came following a series of blasts in Amritsar and Gurdaspur by gangsters-turned-terrorists allegedly with the help of Pakistan’s security agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Stressing the need to check organised crime, Yadav said the officers should intensify efforts to procure Red and Blue Corner notices from Interpol to arrest the wanted criminals hiding abroad, apart from seeking their extradition. He also asked the police officers to maintain law and order ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.
“They were asked to ensure the presence of cops at all important places besides carrying out night-domination operations and implementing other preventive and investigative measures,” said the DGP.
The DGP also met senior police officers of Jalandhar and Ludhiana districts and ordered them to keep a close watch on suspicious activities.
“I’ve mandated all officers to not let anyone violated the law,” he added.
