The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday rejected the resignation of Harjinder Singh Dhami as president.

The committee, which met here under the leadership of senior vice-president Raghujit Singh Virk, unanimously rejected Dhami’s resignation and urged him to resume his duties.

Dhami had resigned on February 17 shortly after Giani Harpreet Singh was removed as Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib on moral grounds.

Dhami had also stepped away from the seven-member panel formed by then Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh for the membership drive and organisational elections of the Shiromani Akali Dal.

Virk, in a press statement after the meeting, said the committee members would visit Dhami’s residence in Hoshiarpur and request him to resume charge immediately.
