Dhudike govt college auditorium named after Punjabi novelist

The state government has dedicated an auditorium of a government college at Dhudike village here to renowned Punjabi novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal, who breathed his last on February 1, this year.
While reading a letter from Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Moga Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Satwant Singh said the state government had decided to name the auditorium of the government college at Dhudike village after novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal.
The SDM was here today to attend a ‘bhog’ ceremony of Jaswant Kanwal at Gurdwara Ucha Dera in Dhudike village.
Apart from family members and relatives, Lok Sabha member from Faridkot Mohammad Sadiq, Baghapurana MLA Darshan Singh Brar, Dharamkot MLAs Kaka Sukhjit Singh Lohgarh and Nihal Singh Wala, Bilaspur MLA Manjit Singh, besides, many eminent personalities from the field of literature were present.
Jaswant Kanwal was born on June 27, 1919, at Dhudike village. He had penned over 100 books in Punjabi which talked about socio-political issues of his time. Some of his acclaimed work includes Sach Nu Fansi, Puranmashi, Paali, Raat Baaki Hai, Mittar Pyaare Nu, Haani, Baraf Di Agg, Lahu Di Loh and Zindagi Dur Nahi etc.
He was awarded with Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Taushali Di Hansi in 1998 and a degree of Doctor of Literature was conferred on him by Guru Nanak Dev University.
