Direct sowing of rice begins in state
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the direct sowing of rice (DSR) began in the state on Thursday.
It would act as a catalyst for checking the depletion of groundwater, besides supplementing the income of farmers, he added.
The CM said in a statement that his government had taken several initiatives to safeguard the interests of farmers. The use of DSR technique for paddy cultivation was being promoted and the government had set a target of bringing 5 lakh acres under the DSR technique during this kharif season, he added.
Urging the farmers to take advantage of the scheme, the CM said the initiative was aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture, besides conserving the water table. The scheme provided for Rs 1,500 per acre financial assistance to the farmers adopting the technique, he added. The measure would save around 20 per cent groundwater, he said.
