Moga, December 19
The Moga police have booked a local medical practitioner, Dr Varun Mittal, and agents Jasvir Singh (Mansa), Veerpal Kaur (Mansa) and Ravinder Kaur (Faridkot) for allegedly conducting a sex determination test of a woman’s foetus.
A case under Section 34 of the IPC and Sections 3, 4, 5, 6 read with Sections 23 and 24 of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act has been registered against them at the City-I police station. A complaint against them was lodged by Rupinder Kaur Gill, District Welfare Officer.
Police officials said Jasvir and Veerpal had been arrested while the other two were on the run. “We have conducted several raids to arrest them but they were not found in their houses,” said ASI Preetam Singh who is investigating the case.
During the interrogation, Jasvir and Veerpal revealed that they took Rs 54,000 from a pregnant woman to conduct the test. The test was conducted at Mittal Ultrasound and Scanning Centre here.
