Assault on Army Colonel: Don’t make it Army vs police issue, says Punjab DGP
DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday condemned the police assault on an Army Colonel and his son in Patiala last week, but urged the public and media to avoid making it an Army vs police issue. This was his first statement on the issue.
Under fire over theft of belongings and tractor-trailers of protesting farmers following the March 19 crackdown at Shambhu and Khanauri, the DGP, addressing a press conference here, announced to exercise zero tolerance towards individuals involved in such cases. He said a strict action would be taken in those cases.
“I come from an Army family and have high regard for the defence forces. I have high regard for the Punjab Police also that has carried out many joint operations with the Army and both fought terrorism in Punjab. Please don’t make it a clash between two important security establishments,” the DGP said.
