Eminent academician and first Vice-Chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, Dr Karamjeet Singh has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. His tenure will be of three years from the date of assumption of office by him. An order in this regard was issued by the Governor’s secretariat today.

Dr Karamjeet Singh is PhD in Finance. He has 38 years of experience in teaching and research. He was conferred with the Life Time Achievement Award (2023) for his contribution in the field of education.

Dr Karmjeet Singh succeeds Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu, who was appointed VC by the then Capt Amarinder Singh government in June 2017 for three years. In June 2020, he was given three-year extension. Last year, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit granted him extension for six months.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
