Dramatic escape bid: Fazilka prisoner falls from electricity tower after shock
A dramatic escape attempt by a prisoner, Judge Singh, turned into a near-fatal accident when he suffered severe burns after coming in contact with high-voltage wires. The Fazilka police were transporting him to Faridkot jail under court orders when the incident occurred near Sadiq town in Faridkot district today.
According to police officials, Judge Singh, a resident of Jalal in Ferozepur, had been declared a fugitive in a 2021 NDPS Act case. Recently arrested, he was presented in a court, which ordered his transfer to Modern Jail, Faridkot. However, as the police vehicle slowed down at a chowk in Sadiq town, the prisoner pushed a guard, jumped out of the vehicle, and made a run for it.
While fleeing, Singh entered a 66-KV power grid area and climbed onto a tower. As soon as he reached the top, he came in contact with high-voltage wires, receiving a severe electric shock. The impact caused him to fall from the tower, leaving him critically injured.
Police officers rushed him to a medical hospital for treatment. His condition remains critical. The authorities are investigating the incident and reviewing security measures for transporting prisoners to prevent such escapes in the future.
