The introduction of e-challaning machines has made the process of paying fines for traffic violations more convenient in Malerkotla.Equipped with these machines, traffic cops can now accept cashless payments for fines on the spot, greatly easing their workload.
Previously, violators would often argue or use their influence to avoid paying fines, but the new system has led to quicker resolutions, with many drivers agreeing to pay after only brief resistance.
Almost all traffic enforcement teams conducting checkpoints, or nakas, are now equipped with e-challaning machines, although conventional challan books are still available as well.
This shift has been welcomed by both law enforcement and local leaders, as it has eliminated the need for drivers to visit distant offices to settle fines.
In-charge of the traffic team, Balvir Singh, noted that the public is increasingly understanding the importance of fines for routine violations such as not wearing helmets, failing to use seat belts, or wrong parking.
Vikas Krishan Sharma, President of the Municipal Council Ahmedgarh, mentioned that he had received fewer calls for intervention from residents after the police intensified nakas for the National Road Safety month in January.
He acknowledged that the convenience of paying fines on-site has reduced the number of complaints. The new system is proving to be a relief for both traffic cops and vehicle owners, as it minimises bureaucracy and expedites the payment process.
