Traders and farmers staged a sit-in outside the Food Corporation of India (FCI) office in Sriganganagar, 40 km from Abohar, today to oppose the online registration system for the procurement of foodgrain at the MSP.

FCI officials were given a memorandum demanding that the purchase of wheat at MSP be kept offline.

Traders Association president Dharamvir Dudeja and All-India Kisan Sabha national committee member Sheopat Ram Meghwal said farmers did not have a system of storing wheat in their houses. Most of them might not be able to avail the limited availability of online registration and were unlikely to follow the scheduled dates. — OC
