The ED initiated the investigation on the basis of two FIRs registered by the Vigilance Bureau, Flying Squad-1, Mohali, under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. TNS
Rs 6 crore siphoned off from SBI accounts
Faridkot: A clerk deputed at the State Bank of India’s (SBI) branch in Sadiq of Faridkot allegedly siphoned off Rs 6 crore from over 130 accounts. The fraud came to light when customers discovered unauthorised withdrawals from their accounts. The police have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding accused. TNS
Drug de-addiction centre sealed in Dhuri
Sangrur: An illegal drug de-addiction centre was sealed at Dhuri by a committee of the administration after 19 drug addicts were rescued from there on Wednesday evening. Out of the rescued 19 addicts, 12 were handed over to their families, while the other seven were sent to District Rehabilitation Centre, Ghabdan (Sangrur), for treatment.— OC
50 litre lahan seized
Sangrur: The police seized 50 litre “lahan”, eight strips of intoxicating pills (Alprazolam)) and 10 gm heroin from three different places under the Dirba and Bhawanigarh police stations. The Dirba police seized “lahan” at Laad Vanjara Kalan village; and heroin from Rajinder Singh at Nadampur village. Gagandeep Singh and Karamjit Singh were arrested with intoxicating pills. — OC
