AI-based CCTV surveillance is being implemented in eight central jails to detect contraband throws, wall scaling and unauthorised mobile usage. The system will be extended to six more jails, stated Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. To strengthen security in jails, V-Kavach jammers are being installed across 12 sensitive prisons. These have already been installed at the Central Jail Bathinda, which also received an additional CRPF company for enhanced security.
The department is in the process of equipping all 13 sensitive jails with X-ray baggage scanners and bringing high-security zones where high risk prisoners are lodged under CCTV surveillance.
