An elderly couple was allegedly murdered by unidentified robbers at Khiayla village under Lopoke police station here.
The couple was murdered late on Tuesday evening but the incident came to light late today when relatives did not find any response of their calls.
The deceased were identified as Kulwant Singh, a retired teacher, and his wife Preetam Kaur. After retirement, Kulwant Singh was running a jewellery shop from their residence.
SP (investigations) Amandeep Kaur said the couple used to live alone while their children live in the city. She said there was marriage of their granddaughter. Yesterday, they had gone to the city for the function and returned in the evening.
Their family members were repeatedly calling them on phone today but the couple did not respond. Today evening they came to the village and found the couple lying in a pool of blood. They immediately raised the alarm.
The police reached the spot and took the bodies in their possession.
Amandeep Kaur said the house was ransacked pointing towards robbery. The couple was murdered with a pointed weapon which is used for breaking ice. She said investigations were under way and the accused would be arrested soon.
