The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded a judicial probe into the functioning of the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Punjab police “for being a mute spectator when gross violation of model code of conduct was committed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers during the zila parishad and block samiti polls in the state”.

SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said the SAD would also approach the Governor and appeal to him to take action in the matter, besides taking legal recourse.

Earlier, the SAD had submitted a written complaint to the SEC, citing various incidents “where the AAP candidates and their supporters used all means to hijack the poll by cocking a snook at norms”.

Dr Cheema pointed out that many SAD workers were injured in Qazikot in Tarn Taran, Talwandi Dasondha Singh in Majitha, Naushehra Majasingh in Batala, Kangra in Malout, Madhir and Babania in Gidderbaha.
