Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said these candidates had not submitted their election expenses as per Section 78 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to the EC within a specified time-frame, thus rendering them ineligible to contest elections for the next three years. These candidates were disqualified by the EC on July 15.

He said the candidates include Sucha Singh, who contested from the Batala Assembly seat, Prem Singh and Hardip Singh, who were in the fray from the Qadian segment, Sunny, Karandeep Singh and Gurpreet Singh, who contested from the Gurdaspur Assembly segment. — TNS
