Patiala, February 11
After outrage, the state Education Department has withdrawn its order that allowed candidates to change their reserved categories after the declaration of the merit list.
HC directions cited
Withdrawing the directions, the department referred to an HC order, wherein it had stated in a similar case that the change of category after the examination was “unhealthy practice”.
In its order, the department said the candidates who had changed their categories, after the final result was out, wouldn’t be counted for the recruitment for the ETT and master cadre teachers.
The department had allowed candidates to change their categories through its orders on December 16 for the ETT cadre and on January 13 for the master cadre.
The notices to change the categories were put out after the merit list had already been declared.
Around 400 candidates changed their categories from the general to SC allegedly as they couldn’t qualify in their respective categories.
