Former Cabinet Minister Jagmohan Singh Kang has sought additional funds for Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, to give a fillip to the livestock sector, an important part of state’s economy.

In a letter to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Kang emphasised the importance of strengthening the livestock sector, a crucial component of the state’s economy. Kang argues that increased financial support is needed from both state and central sources to address various challenges facing the sector, including biodiversity concerns, high animal populations, low productivity, environmental resilience, diseases, and shortages of feed and fodder.

He highlighted that GADVASU was founded to enhance research and support farmers in diversifying both agriculture and livestock operations. By boosting funding, Kang hopes to improve the income of farmers and contribute positively to the state’s economy.
