Former Bhadaur MLA Nirmal Singh Nimma on Monday announced his resignation from the Congress, citing neglect by the party leadership. Nimma (69) contested Assembly elections as a BSP candidate in 1992, 1997 and 2002, and emerged victorious in 1992.“I was a close confidant of Manpreet Singh Badal and served as the SC wing president of his People’s Party of Punjab (PPP). I joined the Congress in 2016 when the PPP merged with it. However, I did not join the BJP along with Manpreet. I believe the Congress leadership, especially PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, ignored me because of my long association with Manpreet. Now, I have resigned from the Congress and will take a decision on joining another political outfit in the coming days,” Nimma said.Asked if he had formally submitted his resignation, he said, “When I was not even being invited to party programmes, there is no need for a formal resignation.”
