While the government is fighting Covid as well as rumour mongers, the necessary health facilities are being ensured for expecting mothers at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Khuikhera village, 15 km from here, on the Abohar-Fazilka highway.

In this critical phase, the staff nurses have to work hard for emergency deliveries. So far, 243 children have been born at the hospital in the midst of the crisis.

Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Rohit Goyal said the medicos and paramedics had been trying to pay special attention to pregnant women as per Covid guidelines.

“Data about outsides, truck drivers and other people is being taken down by the health workers in detail to register their travel history. This is also being done in the labour rooms by the staff nurses in Panjkosi, Killianwali, Kheowali Dhab and Khuikhera villages. The staff nurses were given a list of pregnant women in about 50 villages of Khuikhera block, who were expecting in the same month, to keep a tab,” the SMO said.

Block Mass Media in-charge Sushil Kumar Beganwali said each staff nurse stays in touch with ASHA workers and Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) activists to get updates on pregnant women of the respective area. Apart from this, 108 Ambulance is also kept ready so that the patient does not face any difficulty if she is to be referred to government hospitals in Abohar or Fazilka. Those living in rural areas are educated how to protect themselves and the newborn baby from the disease, he added.
