Explosion at Majitha police station; just a tyre burst, says SSP
Panic gripped Majitha town when the sound of an explosion was heard inside the Majitha police station around 10.30 pm on Wednesday.
Immediately after the ‘blast’, the cops closed the gates and restricted entry into the police station complex. Even mediapersons were not allowed to enter the police station.
Police officials, however, claimed that the blast was actually caused by bursting of a tyre of a bike. The windowpanes of the police station were broken due to the explosion.
On November 30, a similar blast had occurred in a building of the Gurbaxnagar police chowki under the Amritsar Police Commissionerate. The police have not yet confirmed the cause of the blast.
Hours after the ‘blast’ at the Majitha police station, a social media post emerged claiming that it was carried out by US-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Pashia, and his other foreign-based accomplices Gopi Nawansheharia and Jeewan Fauji. The post claimed that it was a hand grenade attack.
However, the police authorities refuted the claim.
Amritsar (Rural) SSP Charanjit Singh said there was no such explosion. The minor blast was caused due to bursting of a tyre. He said, “Just to clear the doubts and false claims, the forensic teams would be examining the spot.”
Earlier, Happy Pashia had also claimed to have planted an IED attached with RDX outside the Ajnala police station and caused the blast at the Gurbaxnagar police chowki. Pashia was also allegedly behind the hand grenade blast at a house in Chandigarh earlier this year
