A Deputy Superintendent of Police posted in Faridkot was on Friday arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe the Senior Superintendent of Police’s aide to “suppress a complaint against him”.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajan Pal, the incharge of the cell dealing with crime against women, has been booked under Sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the police, Kiranjit Kaur, a resident of Pakka village, had filed a complaint regarding a matrimonial dispute.

Her brother Karmtej Singh alleged that the DSP demanded Rs 1 lakh to act on their complaint. Despite “receiving the money”, the officer “failed to take any action”, he alleged.

When the matter was brought to the attention of SSP Pragya Jain, the DSP allegedly tried give Rs 1 lakh to ASI Jaswinder Singh, the SSP’s reader, in a bid to suppress the complaint filed against him.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the City Police Station and Rajan Pal was taken into custody. As there was no request for police remand, he was produced in a court and sent to judicial custody today.
