The complaint was initially filed by Kiranjit Kaur of Pakka village. Her brother, Karmtej Singh, alleged that the DSP demanded Rs 1 lakh to act on their case. Despite the payment, no action was taken.

After the matter was escalated to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Pragya Jain, DSP Rajan Pal reportedly attempted to offer a Rs 1 lakh bribe to ASI Jaswinder Singh, the SSP’s reader, to suppress the complaint filed against him.
