Sangrur, February 21
A Sangrur court has granted anticipatory bail to the Secretary of the Faridkot Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Hardeep Singh, in a case pertaining to the issuance of a backdated driving licence to a resident.
“The court has allowed the anticipatory bail application of Hardeep Singh, a PCS officer, after it became clear that his custodial interrogation was not required for the investigation of the case. The court has directed him to join the investigation as and when required by the police. The other accused is Assistant Transport Officer Gurnam Singh and a clerk,” Amit Kumar Bhalla, counsel of Hardeep Singh, said.
Bhalla said after adding the names of the Secretary and another employee in a four-month-old fraud case, the Sangrur police had started raids to arrest the accused.
“The bail was granted two days back but we got the final order last evening. The case pertains to the issuance of a driving license from Faridkot to a Sangrur resident,” Bhalla added.
Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg said the FIR was registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC on October 21, 2019, after Sangrur resident Rajinder Singh alleged that he had received a licence issued from Faridkot RTA office while he should have got it from Sangrur as he resides under the jurisdiction of the Sangrur RTA.
