Faridkot SHO, two constables booked for extortion, corruption
The Faridkot police have booked Sadiq police station SHO Joginder Kaur and police constables Sher Singh and Lakhbir Singh for alleged extortion and corruption.
The policemen are accused of illegally detaining a scrap dealer, Anmol Singh, from Ludhiana, and extorting Rs 2 lakh from his wife, Palvi, in exchange for his release. The FIR has been registered at the Sadiq police station in Faridkot district.

According to Palvi’s complaint, the accused cops lured Anmol Singh to Baghapurana town in Moga on the pretext of a scrap sale. Once there, he was allegedly taken into illegal custody, implanting some scrap items as recovery from him. The officers allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh as a bribe to secure his release, threatening to book him for theft if the demand was not met.
Palvi further alleged that in addition to unlawfully detaining her husband, the police also held her and her four-year-old son until her relatives from Ludhiana arranged the money. She claimed that two police officials accompanied her and her son to Faridkot bus stand at 10.30 pm, where her relatives handed over Rs 2 lakh to the officers.
Sources within the police department said a case was registered against SHO Joginder Kaur and the two constables three days after the incident, following pressure from a senior Congress leader who threatened to stage a protest outside the SSP office in Faridkot.
Faridkot DSP and investigation officer Tarlochan Singh said a criminal case had been registered under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He said a detailed investigation was underway to ascertain the facts and take appropriate action against the accused.
