As many as 10 victims of farm mishaps or their dependents were given cheques worth Rs 6.80 lakh, at the office of Market Committee, Bhawanigarh. These cheques were given away by Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj.

Charanjit Kaur from Gharachon village was given a cheque of Rs 2 lakh as her husband had died due to electrical current while working in the field. Likewise, a cheque of Rs 2 lakh was given to Randeep Kaur whose husband had also died of electricity current in the field. A cheque of Rs 2 lakh was given to Jaswinder Singh of Majhi village whose mother had died due to a snakebite in the field.

Six victims of a farm machinery mishap who had lost one finger each were given cheques worth Rs 10,000 each, while a person who had lost two fingers was given a cheque of Rs 20,000.

The MLA said the financial assistance is provided to the victims or their dependents after due verification by the departments concerned. She said any victim or dependent of the victim could approach the office of Market Committee to gain benefit of this facility.
