The farmers protesting against the setting up of compressed biogas (CBG) plants across the state have issued an ultimatum to the government to scrap the proposal by September 5. The ultimatum was issued after talks between the state government and the farm unions failed on Tuesday. The miffed farmers have threatened to block the NH-44 if the government fails to act.

The matter gained prominence after the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) sitting at the Shambhu border extended their support to the coordination committee members opposing the setting up of the CBG plants.
