Father’s fury turns fatal, kills only son over family dispute in Punjab’s Ajnala

The victim’s grandfather told police the incident occurred around 9 am when his grandson picked a quarrel with his father

A 32-year-old man died after being assaulted by his father during a violent family dispute in Kiampur village under the Ajnala police station limits on Thursday morning. Kashmir Singh (85), the victim’s grandfather, told police the incident occurred around 9 am when his grandson Simarjang Singh picked a quarrel with his father, Harpal Singh.

Simarjang allegedly beat Harpal with a stick, dragging him outside. The altercation escalated, and Harpal struck Simarjang’s head with a brick, hitting him 4-5 more times. Simarjang died on the spot due to severe head injuries. Kashmir Singh and his wife Davinder Kaur witnessed the incident.

Police registered a case, arresting Harpal Singh. DSP Gurvinder Singh said the victim was Harpal’s only son, and the probe is on to ascertain the quarrel’s reason. Harpal’s wife Sukhbir Kaur was also nominated, and her role is being investigated.
