The dialysis unit in Fazilka Civil Hospital was inaugurated by a girl — who came here for treatment — in the presence of MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna, his wife Khushboo Sawansukha and Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu today.

Earlier, a dialysis machine was installed in the hospital in 2022 but the same became defunct as it developed a technical snag after a few days.

MLA Sawna said people had to go to distant cities for dialysis, but now this facility has been started at Fazilka Civil Hospital and would benefit patients.

Acting Civil Surgeon Dr Eric said three modern machines have been installed in this dialysis centre. They will work with Dr Rohit, in-charge of the dialysis unit. With these machines, six patients can be dialysed per day. Patients will be treated free of charge at this centre. He said registration of Ayushman Health Insurance Scheme will be done on the spot. Each room will have an LED screen and other necessary arrangements have been completed. Accommodation and drinking water facilities have also been arranged for attendants of patients.

Officials said the Punjab Health System Corporation and the Hans Foundation, Dehradun, had inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide free of charge dialysis to the needy patients in February. Fazilka is one of the 10 cities to have this facility at state-run hospitals.

With an aim to create an equitable society, The Hans Foundation also focuses on holistic education and livelihood development of communities.
