Fazilka man axes wife to death, held

Fazilka, July 21

A man allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe while inebriated at Hauz Khas village, Fazilka district, this morning.

According to official sources, Palo Bai (47) went to the village to plant paddy in the morning, her husband Sukhdev Singh followed and hit her in the head and neck with an axe.

Gurmail Singh, the deceased’s son, stated that he and his paternal uncle Harjinder Singh, who was nearby, arrived at the spot soon after and took her to Fazilka Civil Hospital. However, she succumbed to the injuries on the way.

Gurmail Singh alleged in the FIR that his father, Sukhdev Singh, used to argue with his mother and frequently beat her after drinking alcohol, questioning her character.

Jalalabad DSP Acchru Ram said police personnel arrested the accused only a few hours after the incident. The accused has been booked under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
