Fear of vector-borne diseases looms over Muktsar district

Fear of vector-borne diseases looms large due to waterlogging in a number of villages in Muktsar. Though it rained five days ago, numerous fields are still inundated, thus increasing the chances of water contamination as well.

Dr Ranju Singla, Chief Medical Officer, Muktsar, said, “The possibility of outbreak of vector-borne diseases is very high. I held a meeting with the senior medical officers and told them to take timely steps. We can’t do fogging in all the areas to stop mosquito breeding.”

Volunteers of Khalsa Aid had been assisting the affected farmers by installing pumps to drain out rainwater at Mohlan village.

The MC Executive Officer and the SDO of Water Supply Department assured the protesters of speedy action 

Meanwhile, the police have taken action against those damaging the roads to create passage for flow of rainwater to other areas. The Muktsar Sadar police have booked some farmers for allegedly cutting the road at three spots in Attari and Sohnewala villages, which damaged houses and crops of other farmers.

Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur and Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar visited the affected villages and issued helpline numbers.
