Ferozepur, December 22
The Ferozepur police have sought extradition of two Australian residents who are the main accused behind the cold-blooded murder of Ravneet Kaur (29), an NRI from Australia who had gone missing from her parents’ house at Bagge Ke Pippal village on March 14 this year. Her body was recovered from the Bhakra canal in Sangrur on March 25.
Later, the police had registered a case against her husband Jaspreet Singh and his girlfriend Kiranjit Kaur, both residents of Australia, besides Taranjit Kaur and Sandeep Singh of Patiala, and others.
Ravneet, who worked as a nurse at Tricare Cypress Garden Aged Care Centre in Gold Coast, was four-month pregnant when she was kidnapped by Kiranjit and her sister Taranjit from outside her parents’ house here while she was talking to her husband in Australia. Later, after the crime, Kiranjit took a Singapore Airlines flight to Australia the next day but her sister Taranjit besides Sandeep and two accused Gursewak Singh and Pushpinder Singh were nabbed by the police. However, both main accused have not been arrested yet even as the court had issued warrants against them and had asked them to appear by November 30.
The Australian Federal Police officials had also come to meet the Ferozepur police officials, but till date, the main accused could not be extradited due to a convoluted procedure involving international norms.
Vivek Sheel Soni, SSP, said the matter had been taken up with the MHA and the Australian High Commission. “We will soon have a Skype meeting with them to expedite the process,” he added.
