On Day 2 of farmers’ ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest, the Haryana Police repeatedly fired a large number of tear gas shells on agitating farmers at the Khanauri border.
The protesting farmers alleged the police had fired rubber bullets to stop them from entering Haryana.
Twelve farmers suffered serious injuries due to tear gas shells and rubber bullets as they tried to breach barricades at the Khanauri border in the afternoon.
Activist Lakha Sidhana asked youngsters to follow the directions of senior farm leaders. Other farm leaders also urged their companions to protest in a peaceful manner. The farm leaders accused the Centre of not fulfilling their demands, which were accepted during the Delhi stir in 2021.
Locals along the Khanauri border reached the protest site early in the morning and served langar to protesting farmers. Several first-aid counters have also been set up to assist injured farmers.
Meanwhile, Internet services remained suspended today as well in Khanauri.
Rahul talks to wounded agitators
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring met the injured farmers and also dialled Rahul Gandhi who spoke to a couple of injured farmers. Gandhi was critical of the police action against farmers and assured them that the Congress was firmly standing with the farmer community.
