Five lives snuffed out in accident near Dasuya
Hoshiarpur, January 27
Five people were killed and one injured in a road mishap near Dasuya on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway on Friday night.
According to information, the car in which the victims were travelling was hit by a truck from the rear, leading to the accident. Thereafter, the truck driver lost the balance and the vehicle overturned after colliding with a roadside tree. The car caught fire after the incident. A team of the Fire Department, along with policemen and an ambulance, reached the spot and it took firefighters about half and an hour to doused the flames.
The truck driver suffered serious injuries who was brought out of the vehicle by passers-by.
The deceased have been identified as Rishabh Minhas, Indrajit Kaundal, Raju and Abhi, residents of Bhargav Camp, and Ankit Kumar, a resident of Ghas Mandi of Jalandhar.
Eyewitness Gurmeet Singh, who brought the car occupants out of the vehicle with others, said he was on the way to Dasuya from Mukerian in his car with some of his friends. He said when they reached near Uchi Bassi village, they saw flames coming out of the car.
The mishap occurred just a minute or two before his arrival, he added. The eyewitness said two of the victims were dead when he, along with others, brought them out of the car, while two others were alive. One of the victims managed to escape from the car on his own, who was taken to the hospital where he breathed his last.
When the policemen and the ambulance reached the spot, by then two others victims succumbed.
Gurmeet said after they left the spot, they saw an overturned truck about 500 meters away. The truck driver, who was trapped in the vehicle, was also taken to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya.
Gurmeet claimed that the truck driver had tried to flee the spot after hitting the car, but he lost the control and the vehicle overturned.
The bodies have been handed over to their family members after the post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against the truck driver, identified as Sushil Kumar, a resident of Karnal.
