Fog, cold wave affect polling during early hours in Abohar
The average voter turnout for the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections in Fazilka district was 36.2% by 2 pm
Poor visibility due to fog and a cold wave affected polling for the zila parishad and panchayat samiti in most of the villages in the Abohar and Balluana constituencies. These areas are part of Fazilka district, which was among the most affected by recent floods. The minimum temperature was recorded at 12.9 °C in the morning hours.
Officials confirmed that average polling in Fazilka district was 22.71 per cent by 12 noon. Polling further increased to 36.2 per cent by 2 pm.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar was in the first batch to cast vote in Panjkosi village. He said, “I have performed my (constitutional) duty and wish all the candidates a success.”
There are two polling stations in Ruherianwali village, about 13km from Abohar. Despite fog, some voters turned up during early hours at Government High Smart School to cast their votes.
The total population of Ruherianwali village is around 3,649, including approximately 1,909 males and 1,740 females, with a sex ratio of 911 females per 1,000 males.
