The order was issued to the Sangrur Municipal Council (MC). The court has now directed the officer to ensure its compliance by the next date of hearing, which is September 15.

The Commission has also told the Secretary to look into the lapse at his own level in this regard.

In its order, the PSHRC has also mentioned that the report regarding garbage dump from the Sangrur MC was awaited. The Commission has neither received any communication nor any report from the Sangrur MC so far.

Local councillor Asha Rani had sought an urgent intervention of the PSHRC against the setting up of the “unauthorised garbage dump” near the Dhanak Basti, Sangrur, saying it had been adversely affecting the health of members of the SC/ST community.
