Former Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna has raised concerns about 52 medicines, including paracetamol samples, failing quality tests conducted by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).

Khanna, in a letter addressed to the National Human Rights Commission and Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, has expressed his dismay over the lack of quality control by pharmaceutical companies, terming it as a direct threat to public health.

He emphasised that compromising on the quality of medicines was unacceptable as it directly endangers the health of citizens.

He stressed that every individual had a fundamental right to access safe and proper healthcare, and the negligence shown by these pharmaceutical companies was a blatant violation of these rights.

The former MP called on the Health Minister to take stringent action against companies responsible for producing substandard medicines. He added that strict guidelines should be issued to all pharmaceutical firms to ensure adherence to quality standards, so that the public receives medicines that were both safe and effective.
