Faridkot, December 4

Former Moga SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma, who is one of the prime accused in the police firing incident at Behbal Kalan in which two persons were killed on October 2015, today moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking transfer of his case from the District and Sessions Court, Faridkot, to outside the district. Sharma has urged the High Court to transfer his case, preferably to Haryana or Chandigarh.

The High Court has issued a notice to the state government for December 20 on the petition, said Himmat Singh Deol, the advocate for Sharma. Sharma and three other police officials are facing a criminal case under Sections 302, 307, 34, 201, 218, 120-B IPC and Sections 25, 27, of Arms Act. This case was registered at Bajakhana on October 21, 2015, a week after the killing of two protesters at Behbal Kalan over the sacrilege issue.

In the case, other than Sharma, there are three other prime accused-— the then Fazilka SP (Detective) Bikramjit Singh, then Bajakhana SHO Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh Kular, and Inspector Pardeep, who was the reader to Sharma. The SIT of the Punjab Police had filed a chargesheet in this case only against Sharma so far.

In its chargesheet, filed on April 4, the SIT had claimed that to fabricate false evidence against the peaceful protesters at Behbal Kalan on October 14, 2015, Sharma’s escort vehicle was taken to the house of a lawyer in Faridkot where Bikramjit Singh, then Fazilka SP, had asked a car dealer to arrange for a gun. The dealer reportedly sent his company’s manager and private security guard to provide a gun to Bikramjit Singh and the latter had fired from this gun to fabricate 18 bullet marks on the escort vehicle at the advocate’s residence.
