Foundation calls for preservation of Dulla Bhatti’s grave
The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, Pakistan, has expressed concerns over the deteriorating condition of Dulla Bhatti’s grave and the encroachment surrounding it.
The Foundation’s representatives, including chairman Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, senior vice-president Malik Ehtishamul Hasan, and additional secretary Dr Shahid Naseer, visited the Miani Sahib graveyard in Lahore, where the legendary figure is buried.
They prayed for Bhatti and noted the grave’s poor state due to encroachment and unauthorized construction.
Qureshi highlighted the historical significance of Dulla Bhatti, calling him a protector of self-respect who bravely opposed the emperors of his time.
Bhatti’s heroism is immortalized in folklore, especially in the Lohri song “Sundar Mundariye Ho, Tera Kaun Vichara Ho, Dulla Bhatti Wala Ho,” which recalls his rescue of a kidnapped Hindu girl named Sundari.
Born in 1547, Dulla Bhatti was executed in Lahore in 1589, but his legacy lives on in these cultural traditions.
The Foundation has called on the government to construct a proper tomb for Dulla Bhatti, ensure the preservation of his grave, include his life story in the educational curriculum, and issue a postal stamp in his honour.
