Four dead, 17 hurt as bus collides with stationary dumper on Hanumangarh highway

A road accident on the Hanumangarh mega highway near Nagrana village this morning claimed the lives of four persons and left 17 others injured.

The collision occurred around 8.30 AM when a Rajasthan Roadways bus, travelling from Hanumangarh to Chandigarh, crashed into a gravel-laden dumper truck that was reportedly parked on the highway.

The deceased have been identified as Rajveer (52) from Madhya Pradesh, Prithvi Raj (52) from Hanumangarh, bus conductor Ravinder Singh (50) from Sriganganagar and Vinod Tanwar (65) from Mirzewala, Sriganganagar.

The injured, including Gentleman Singh, Amar Dass, Dharampal Matoria, Aarti Bawri, Gulshan Bawri, Surjit Singh Kamboj, Rajinder Odh, his wife Sanju Rani and son Rehan, Ravi Odh, bus driver Kuldeep Odh, Nishant Soni, Rekha Tomar, Kulwinder Kaur, and Gurpreet Singh, were rushed to the government hospital.

According to Sangria police station in-charge Amar Singh, the bus was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with the rear of the dumper truck. The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to the front of the bus.

Local residents and police worked together to pull the injured from the wreckage. Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar and DSP Karan Singh were present at the scene.

Following post-mortem examinations, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families. A case has been registered against the dumper truck driver for negligently parking the vehicle on the highway, based on a complaint filed by the family of one of the victims. Traffic on the highway was restored later in the day after the damaged vehicles were removed.
