Four of family, six others killed in accidents

Abohar/Sriganganagar, March 15

Four members of a Sriganganagar-based family died in a mishap on Monday, near Durgapur village on the Panchpadra-Balotra mega highway in Rajasthan.

Preliminary investigation reportedly indicated that a truck overturned on a car, in which five members of a family were traveling. Four of them and the driver were killed, while one was injured.

Investigating officer Dawood Khan said the deceased were identified as Banarasi Das Aggarwal (54), his wife Babita (52), granddaughter Siya (2), grandson Bhavya (4), all from Ganapati Nagar Colony in Sriganganagar, and driver Bhim Sain (24) of Padampur. Pooja (30), wife of Anjani Dass, who is son of Banarasi Das, was seriously injured. She has been referred to Jodhpur hospital.

The families of Banarasi Das Aggarwal and his brother Bajrang Lal Agarwal had left for Balotra from Sriganganagar yesterday evening in separate cars. On the mega highway near Durgapur, the driver of a truck reportedly lost control while negotiating a turn and overturned on the car, in which the family of Banarasi Dass was travelling.

The driver and cleaner of the truck, who suffered minor injuries, reportedly fled, leaving behind the vehicle. Traffic was restored by removing the crashed vehicles with the help of cranes.

After the post-mortem, the bodies of the victims have been handed over to the family. A case of negligence is being registered against the truck driver.

In another mishap, a speeding car reportedly hit a motorcycle, near Homeland City on Suratgarh Road in Sriganganagar. Biker Vakil Singh (35) was killed in the accident.

Another motorcyclist Balwant Singh (50) of Chak 13 KND village died after he was allegedly hit by a tractor in Rawla segment of Sriganganagar.

Bajrang Lal (50) of Lakhanvas village in Hanumangarh, died on the spot as a tractor reportedly hit him at 11:30 pm yesterday.

Two persons were killed and six were injured when two cars collided head-on, near the Chak 22 LGW on the National Highway-62 on Sunday evening.

Pawan Kumar, in charge, Suratgarh Sadar Police, said Pooja (32) of Srivijaynagar and Mani Ram (50) of Ramdev Colony in Sriganganagar were killed. Pooja’s husband Vikas (34), daughter Apoorva (3), Rajni Sidana (33) and her daughter Ananya (9) and Mani Ram’s wife Saroj (45) were injured. The bodies were handed over to the kin after post-mortem today. The police said a case had been registered.
