Fuel stations shut over VAT disparity

Vehicle owners had to bear inconvenience as close to 3,500 filling stations in the state remained shut from 8 am to 5 pm in protest against the disparity of tax rates in petrol and diesel in comparison to its neighbouring states.
The dealers rued that they were suffering losses due to the disparity in retail prices of petroleum products on account of the high rate of VAT in the state.
“Over 3,400 petrol stations dealers in Punjab kept their fuel stations shut today,”’ said Paramjit Singh, president, Petrol Pump Dealers Association, Punjab.
