On Friday, a few women assembled at the residence of former Municipal Council president Pramil Kalani to take out the Gangaur procession through main roads, but they decided to restrict it to a street only.

Maheshwari Mahila Sangathan president Sunita Gilda said Gauri Tritiya, popularly known as Gangaur, is celebrated extensively in North India. The festival, which celebrates marital happiness, is a 18-day-long affair which begins on the first day of Chaitra month. Gangaur puja is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. ‘Gana’ means Shiva and ‘Gaur’ means Parvati and this divine couple is worshipped by the womenfolk where they wish for the longevity of their husbands. The day is also known as Saubhagya Teej.
