Muktsar, January 1
The police on Wednesday claimed that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was behind the murder of history-sheeter Manpreet Singh ‘Manna’. “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will divulge more details during a briefing on Thursday,” a senior police officer told The Tribune.
Manna (37), a relative of Congress leaders, was allegedly shot dead by sharpshooters outside a gym at a shopping mall complex in Malout on December 2.
His family had raised the needle of suspicion on an Akali leader’s son and a councillor. The police had even questioned them. It later came to light that gangster Raju Bhisodi, in a Facebook post in the name of Bishnoi, had claimed that he was behind the murder of Manna because he had turned a “police informer for the encounter of gangster Ankit Bhadu”.
Subsequently, the police questioned both Bishnoi and another gangster Rohit Godara. They are in police custody. They will be produced in court on January 3.
Earlier, Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, SSP, Muktsar, said, “Rohit Godara is also a gangster, brought from Rajasthan in connection with Manna’s murder. During the interrogation, Lawrence had revealed his name.”
