Ropar, July 7

The district police today brought alleged gangster Sukhpreet Buddha on production warrant from Bhatinda jail.

Buddha, a native of Kussa village of Moga district, had been acting as a self-styled head of Davinder Bambiha gang after the encounter of the latter in 2016.

The gangster has been facing more than 12 cases. He had fled the country in 2018 and was deported from Armenia in 2019.

The cops would question Buddha for his alleged role in murder of Avtar Singh, a former sarpanch of Udhampur village near Morinda. The murder happened on December 7, 2021.

Avtar was a confidant of former CM Charanjit Singh Channi and was appointed as a director of Land Mortgage Bank. A few days later, two unidentified gunmen shot him dead outside his house. On February 19, the Haryana Police had claimed that Sagar of Sonepat along with his two associates had killed Avtar on the directions of Canada-based Arshdeep Singh.

Buddha was produced before a local court, which sent him to police remand till July 11.

Meanwhile, gangster Gurbaksh Sewewala was also produced at a court in Anandpur Sahib. He was brought from Bhatinda jail on production warrant in a robbery case which took place at Dehni village on July 1, 2021. He was also sent to the police custody till July 11.
