Gangster Sukhwinder Singh, alias Kaka, alias Shally, a resident of Muradpur locality in Tarn Taran, was injured in a brief encounter with the local police on Sunday.
He was wanted in connection with the recent broad daylight murder of Gurdeep Singh Gokha, a commission agent, at Sathiala village in Baba Bakala subdivision.
SSP Abhimanyu Rana said he was an associate of gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa. "He was involved in the firing incidents that occurred at Piddi village here and in Tarn Taran on August 9 and 10, respectively," he said.
The SSP said following interrogation, he was taken to the canal side where he had concealed his weapon used in various crimes. He opened fire on the police that returned the fire in self-defence, leaving the gangster injured. He has been admitted to the local Civil Hospital for treatment.
