A shootout between the Jalandhar Commissionerate police and a notorious gangster belonging to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang ended with the gangster getting critically injured on Thursday morning. The encounter occurred when the police took the accused to a site where, according to him, some weapons were hidden.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said Manjit Singh, the gangster injured in the shootout, and his accomplices Amandeep Singh and Davinderpal Singh were already in custody. They were arrested after an attack on local resident Vivek Mattu, who was shot at and injured by Manjit and Amandeep. An FIR under Sections 109, 333 and 3(5) of the BNS and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was lodged against them at the Sadar police station.

The investigation led to the recovery of a 9 mm pistol and three cartridges from them. During the interrogation, Manjit Singh revealed that some more weapons were hidden near a petrol station in the Sadar area. However, when the police took him to that site, he tried to escape and opened fire on the police using a concealed weapon. The police retaliated in self-defence, leading to injuries to him and the recovery of five .32 bore firearms and eight cartridges.
